This unusual one day workshop is a real treat both in terms of education and entertainment. From the opening interactive lecture on the history of film, the girls were fully engaged. The presenters pitched their workshop perfectly for a teenage audience and the skills acquired through the actual making of film proved to be hands-on education at its best. This is a great programme!

The One Day Film School was incorporated into our post GCSE Acquaint week and proved to be a great success. The trainers had an excellent rapport with the boys who found the experience both enjoyable and informative...I will certainly be inviting them back.
Reference from Lucy Pearson, Deputy Head, Wellington College:
The pupils really enjoyed the One Day Film School: all the pupils discovered opportunities to be creative and they gained huge reward from seeing their work 'in public'. The course offered plenty of action, plenty of information and they all loved seeing their work at the end of the day at the festival. The course directors were great communicators and worked fantastically well with the pupils. We couldn't have asked for more.

A most enjoyable, well organised day, in which the entire year group were engaged and stimulated from start to finish. All activities were carefully planned to culminate in an Oscar ceremony that was closely contested.

Reference from Mike Buchanan, Headmaster, Ashford School:
The One-Day Film School was a great element of our annual Arts Festival and hugely enjoyed by the pupils. They were particularly impressed by the "cool" presenters and were energised by them to create some really adventurous short films. If you are looking for an all absorbing, inspiring day which will open your pupils' eyes to the world of film production you need look no further.

Young Film Academy started the day with 60 young ladies and, with energy and expertise, transformed them into scriptwriters, camera operators, directors and actors. The girls had an illuminating, exciting and inspiring day.
Reference from Carolyn Trimming, Godolphin and Latymer School:
The One Day Film School successfully combined the delivery of information, both technical and historical, with practical work. The girls found the experience stimulating, informative and great fun. There was a good rapport between the presenters and the students and the sessions provided a great platform for creativity and teamwork. We shall certainly want to repeat the workshop, since it produced an atmosphere of creative collaboration, identified and encouraged key skills and overall was a very positive experience for those involved.

“a superb balance of theory and practice”

We booked the Young Film Academy as part of our Arts Week activities and they proved to be the most popular event with our Year 9s out of all the activities they did. The guys were excellent; charismatic and knowledgeable and held the attention of all the girls throughout the sessions. I can not recommend them highly enough and will be booking them again for this academic year. They were brilliant!
Reference from Celia Norvill, St. Mary’s School Ascot:
The students participating in the one day course learnt a tremendous amount about many aspects of film making. The instructors dealt admirably with a variety of age groups who in turn produced some very creative short films. Several came away feeling inspired to find out more about courses available and one has already put in a request for a camera for her next birthday! A great way to spend a day away from academic studies whilst at the same time learning something new. I am sure that now they will all be watching films with a completely different eye.

An action packed, dynamic, educational and hands-on introduction to film making, the Young Film Acadamy's One-Day Film School kept over 100 14 year olds interested, enthused and enthralled, inspiring a high level of creativity and a genuine desire to produce the best 10 shot film at the end of the day. I have no hesitation in recommending them to other schools and we will certainly be looking to book them again next year. Following the course several students have expressed a real interest in filmmaking and are researching the possible careers available within the film industry.

The One-Day Film School was a slick and professional outfit from start to finish: the staff were extremely helpful, the equipment worked out perfectly and we can now sit back and enjoy our DVD of the day. We look forward to the Young Film Academy returning to Highgate in the near future.

The Young Film Academy workshop captured our year 9 pupils’ imagination immediately. They were all engaged, exhilarated and eager to learn everything that was on offer! The achievement of having a film that had been imagined, planned, directed, acted-out and finalised with the chance of winning an Oscar, was beyond anything they had dreamed! A stunning day!
Reference from Karen White, Heathfield St. Mary's School:
Thank you very much for such an interesting and enlightening workshop into the world of film! The students all said they enjoyed the day very much and the ones that are keen to take filmmaking to a higher level found it invaluable! You captivated every single person in the room.
The way the day was structured was inspirational and everyone was captured by the diversity - from Film History to fight scenes, script writing to special effects, the whole day certainly went fast! However, I think the highlight of making their own films really inspired all who attended, especially viewing the final products - I think I laughed until I cried!
“an atmosphere of creative collaboration”
